Ear-Nose and Throat Doctor (Pediatric) Questions Ear wax

What could be the cause of the amount of ear wax my daughter has?

My daughter is 4 years old and has a lot of wax her ears, which keeps recurring even when I try to clean it every morning. What could be the cause of this?

The amount and type of earwax that is produced by a person is genetically determined. Your wax is supposed to come out on it’s own from the ear canal where it is produced. If one uses a Q-tip to “clean” the ears, they can push the wax deeper in where it will be no longer able to come out on it’s own and will require a visit to the ENT doctors office. The best thing to do is to leave the ears alone, and use a washcloth only to clean off any wax on the outer ear.
