Hematologist-Oncologist Questions Anemia

Can continuous anemia be a sign of blood cancer?

My mother has been anemic for the last 6 months. Despite of her hemoglobin injections and iron tablets, she continues to be anemic. Even the doctors are unable to currently diagnose the main problem. Could it be a sign of blood cancer?

Yes. Have a bone marrow exam.
It would be much more likely to be a sign of blood loss, not likely blood cancer without any other signs
Yes but these can be ruled out with tests. Her ferritin should be high if it is chronic inflammation from cancer, autoimmune disease, or chronic infection. A dx often overlooked is polymyalgia rheumatica which can be cured with a couple of days os prednisone.
yes. Can be sign of mylodysplastic syndrome, OR colon cancer. remember common thing should be rule out first and then other thing to be evaluated. get colonoscopy and see hematologist after that.
Anemia can be a sign of blood cancer. However, there are many other causes of anemia which are in general fixable.
Underlying bone marrow process cannot be totally ruled out. See a hematologist.
