Internist Questions Prediabetic

Could I be pre-diabetic?

I am a 32-year-old woman. My latest lab test reports have shown a morning fasting number of 109 and with an hbA1c report of 5.7. Is it normal or am I pre-diabetic?

I suggest you do more testing to confirm the diagnosis, especially if you have family history of diabetes or you have trouble controlling weight, your lipids or blood pressure are high, you have excess hair growth or abnormal menses etc. Those are signs of insulin resistance which is the underlying cause of pre-diabetes.
Yes. This could be prediabetes. A glucose tolerance test might be helpful. You can also check simultaneous fasting blood glucose and serum insulin level.
Pre-diabetic. Exercise and low carb diet is advised.
I believe that the hemoglobin A1c of 5.7% and a morning fasting #109 would put shoe in the prediabetic class.
