Family Practitioner Questions Bug bites

What creams can I use for mosquito and ant bites?

I am on vacation and I am finding a lot of little bites on my legs and arms, probably from mosquitos and ants. What topical creams should I use to soothe these bites?

Lemon oil is useful
Bites should be treated with care as they will cause you to itch and produce an infection at the site. If there are fresh bites, suggest clean with alcohol and then use a steroid based cream to take away the inflammation, itching and swelling. If symptoms persist, eg. redness or pain and swelling for greater than say, 3 days consult your doctor.
Aloe or calamine lotion and where approximate clothing and avoid dawn dusk and water ponds or lakes
Hydrocortisone cream is an anti inflammatory that helps and you may want to alternate it with some Benadryl, or another anti itch cream for more comfort
You can use any of the over the counter Cortisone creams at cvs or Walmart
Try coconut oil, .5 cortate.
Calamine lotion or Arnica gel/cream.
