Pediatrician Questions Scabies

My 2 year old daughter has been detected with scabies and medication doesn't look like it's helping yet. What should I do?

My daughter is 25 months old and all of a sudden she started itching severely. We discovered it to be scabies and started treatment. We've been using it for a week and followed the doctor's orders but I see no improvement. Does it usually take this long?

The itching can last even after the scabies are gone. Did you treat the linens? Have you seen any live bugs the past 24 hours. If not give benadyl for itching and wait a little longer.
Scabies treatment is simple and effective. The commonly prescribed medication usually takes one application. The bumps may continue to itch for several more days, but will quickly subside. I guess either the diagnosis or the treatment is in error.
The mites should be killed with one properly applied treatment. The itching and rash are a response to the exriment of the mites. It may take several weeks for these symptoms to clear.
itching can last for some time after treatment for scabies even though the scabies is cured.
