I am a 20 year old female. I want to know if teeth gap bands really work?

Yes, it will work, but treatment will relapse quickly. That means the gap will be closed when you wear the band. You will see the gap again once you discontinue wearing that band.

They work, but they are not safe to use. If teeth move too fast, then root resorption can occur (irreversible). Yes, you would be able to pull the crown portion of the teeth together to close the gap/space, but what about the root portion of the teeth? What if the roots were curved? The risk of exposing root structure would be significantly increased. Please avoid using DIY appliance without consulting with your local dentist for proper orthodontic work.
