One of my incisors is longer than the other. I'm ready to fix this, but how?

I have an incisor that is longer than the other one. I have had a lifelong fear of the dentist but now I'm ready to get this fixed! What can be done to make my longer incisor even with my other one?

Hi!

There are usually two options for changing the shape of a healthy tooth, one being adding a resin (white) and matching filling to the edge of the tooth and bonding it, and the other would be by adding a thin beautiful porcelain veneer that is symmetrically shaped to the other incisor and bonding it. Both are beautiful enhancements that are not invasive, and more than likely don't require numbing.
You have options. Since you have a life long fear of the dentist, I would hope that you are flossing and brushing correctly and seeing your dentist at least twice a year. I have seen patients with a mouthful of dental neglect and the comment was, "I hate the dentist". Patients with this fear, even if they have to be under heavy or general anesthesia, have to have the dental disease removed and restorative work completed. Having a fear of the dentist should make a patient want to floss and brush his or her teeth and have his or her mouth checked twice a year. Leaving diseased teeth, gum disease untreated may be affecting the entire body.
Now back to your question. You have options. if you have chips in a few of your front teeth, Smoothing the jagged edges may modify and give you a softer smile. You can add a cosmetic bonding to the edge, but you may have to be careful biting into foods. Not being able to see your teeth limits what choices you may have. Depending on how your upper and lower teeth come together and looking at the way all your teeth come together, maybe an aligner may be another option. If your front tooth is a virgin tooth, no cavities, no decay and you don't like going to the dentist, doing anything to a virgin tooth's incisal edge by adding material, you may have to have that incisal edge repaired when needed. Choose your option and take care of your teeth and that incisal edge!

You can get it done by bonding. If it is too long, maybe a root canal followed by bonding or veneer crown.
The solution to uneven front teeth really depends upon why the teeth are uneven. Without understanding the 'why', the treatment well could relapse over time.
I would visit an orthodontist first to see if braces should be applied to level the two teeth if can be done expediently and there is no pathology involved that caused the two teeth to be different lengths. The second method is have your dentist artificially build up with a composite resin to make the Tootie level but this will require additional procedures over your life as it does not last forever and it is susceptible to stress fractures and wear and tear.
The dentist will adjust the tooth to make it look better. If the enamel is the only tissue that is adjusted, it will be quick and will look well.
Several things could be done: veneer, crown, crown lengthening.
