Herpes type 1 is a virus spread by skin to skin contact. There is a treatment. Although it can rarely be spread when no active blisters are present, it is best to avoid direct contact with blisters or crusted lesions. Syphilis is also spread by direct or sexual contact. It first appears as a painless ulcer, then goes dormant for months or years. This is called the latent phase, with no symptoms, but is still contagious. Untreated, it enters a late, tertiary phase, with changes in meditation or severe pains. There can also be a secondary phase with meningitis and/or rash.
