Usually limited for 2 weeks to control inflammation of tissues. Be aware that it can stain composite fillings.
Amazing antimicrobial mouthwash. There is not a statue of limitation to the use of the product, but understand it stains your teeth. Most people do not like that and will discontinue use when stains become apparent on your teeth. It does come off with normal cleaning and polishing..

You can use it indefinitely but bear in mind there may be some superficial staining after 2 weeks that can easily be removed by your dental professional. You can always dilute with equal parts water. I prescribe chlorhexidine rinse very frequently due to the anti bacterial properties, a true “mouth sterilizer.”

Chlorhexidine mouth rinse is intended purely for short-term use; typically, for as long as the bottle lasts, or 6 weeks, whichever may come first. Overuse of chlorhexidine can cause staining of the teeth, and even damage to the taste bud cells on your tongue resulting in permanent loss of some taste sensation. Recent studies have found that long-term use can potentially be toxic to your gum tissue, so it is most certainly to be used sparingly. If you believe that you need more of the medication, speak with the dentist who prescribed it to voice your concerns as to why, and find out what their recommendation is.
Anti-microbial rinses like Chlorhexidine are no longer recommended for long-term use. Two weeks is fine. Keep your teeth especially clean to minimize staining from the dying bacteria.

We recommend Chlorhexidine mouthwash after periodontal surgery. This mouthwash tends to stain your teeth though, so you should check with the dentist who prescribed the mouthwash as it is not advisable to use this mouthwash for a long time.

This really depends on whether the clinician and you have established that your bacterial load is decreased and that your oral health is stable. Generally, you shouldn't use it too long and should take breaks in between as it can cause staining.

Using chlorhexidine 0.12 rinse rinse should be monitored by a dental professional. They are in the best position to know how long and how often you should use it.
