“How long does a partial denture last?”
I am a 57 year old male and I wear partial dentures. How long does a partial denture last?

It depends on the partial you're getting. Metal partials are stronger and last longer compared to acrylic or plastic dentures. Also, the metal partials are easy to repair, like adding tooth. Partial dentures can last between 5-10 years, even longer depending on different factors like ridge atrophy. The smaller the ridge gets, the looser the partial gets and might need relining or new partial.
A partial denture should last up to and beyond 20 years if it is well made and taken care of at home by the patient. Well made means a very accurate impression at the time of treatment, a strong metal substrate, and quality resin teeth. Proper home care includes keeping it clean, not eating anything hard or corrosive to the materials, and having it checked periodically by your dentist for proper fit. Quality is the key here.
It depends. Usually 4-6 years, sometimes 10-20 years. At your age, I would absolutely look into dental implants.
That depends on so many variables that there is really no one answer. If you clean it and take good care of it it could last you the rest of your life unless you have an accident or your health changes.

It depends on several things: How much does it rest on the gums, how much does it rest on the teeth? Are the teeth that are clasp crowned or natural are they diverging or filled? So, it is variable, and there are different types. Minimum it should last 5 years. I have patients that have been able to wear the same partial for thirty years plus. The ability to chew with a partial vs. a fixed bridge or implants is greatly different. With a partial, one can add an extra 40 to 60 pounds of chewing force. With other restorations, one can exert hundreds of pounds of chewing force.

Patients have tremendous control over their teeth, mouth and partial dentures. Your natural teeth need to be flossed and brushed correctly daily. Your partial dentures should be removed daily and cleaned. You don't eat with dirty food utensils. Why would you want to eat with partial dentures that have rotting food caked on them.
Food on your partials can decay your natural teeth. Dirty partials can smell. Wearing partials for long periods of time is like going to bed with your shoes on. Keeping your natural teeth clean by flossing correctly and brushing correctly daily.
Cleaning your tongue, gargle and cleaning your partials will prevent gum disease from tooth movement extraction; the need for new partials.
