How long is the recovery for ankle surgery?

My 17 year old son broke his ankle playing baseball. How long is the recovery for ankle surgery?

Usually 6 weeks to heal and about 6 weeks for rehab depending on how bad the fracture was
Broken bone in the ankle usually takes about 8 weeks to heal. After surgery the countdown starts on the day of the surgery, not on the day of the break because the broken bone will be manipulated during surgery and healing starts all over again. Recovery involves returning the motion to the ankle after healing and then restoring strength of the surrounding musculature. That can take 4-8 months. Since he is only 17 it may be a little faster for him so maybe 4-6 months range.
The bone takes about 6 weeks to heal. Then another few weeks for rehab to get the stiffness out. Most patients recover good as new with no long-term problems.

Hope it helps!!
