Dentist Questions Flossing

How many times a day do I need to floss my teeth?

I'm 20 years old, and I want to take care of my teeth a lot better. How many times a day do I need to floss my teeth? Right now I only floss in the morning and at night.

At least once. Do it as often as you feel necessary.
Hello,

We recommend you floss at least twice a day. Ideally, you can also floss in between meals.
Thank you for your question.
2 times is more than enough
Your frequency of flossing is exemplary. My only comment would be if you have food trap areas, it would be wise to keep them free of debris.
The whole point of cleaning our teeth is to disrupt the biofilm which is that sticky plaque that forms on our teeth after eating. The longer it stays on our teeth, the more organized the germs become. Surprisingly it takes two to three days for undisturbed germs to begin causing damage; so really only need to floss once every other day. I floss once a day, but if I miss a day, I don’t worry about it. If you floss and your gums bleed then you need to floss more or get your teeth professionally cleaned.
