Family Practitioner Questions Colonoscopy

Is a colonoscopy painful?

I'm 36 and should have colonoscopy soon. I'm a bit scared of it and already delayed the appointment once. Is a colonoscopy painful?

No, a patient during colonoscopy is under so-called moderate sedation, which provides good anesthesia.
Do not delay the procedure. You should be sedated for it and thus it should not be painful.
Colonoscopic examination in the hands of an experienced colonoscopic examiner is painless. A light sedation might be necessary if you are apprehensive about the procedure. Your age of 31 is quite young unless you have a family history of … or high clinical suspicion of a colonic disorder.
No. A colonoscopy is not painful. You are given anesthesia and you won’t feel anything and will not remember having the procedure done.
Absolutely not. You are given sedation during the scope so you won’t remember anything. The air we put in to see leaves you feeling like you are very bloated after but you just pass it out. The difficult part is the prep which makes you go to the bathroom a lot.
