Anesthesiologist Questions CT Scans

Is CT scan done under general anesthesia for adults?

I need to have a CT scan done soon and I don't do well in tight spaces. Is it possible for me to use anesthesia during a CT scan?

The CT scanner is very different from an MRI scanner. CT scans are very fast and are not enclosed. It's basically a donut magnet that is about 1-1.5 feet thick. MRI scanners are more tubes that are much more claustrophobic. There are "Open MRIs which are much better. These look like a large disk about 6 feet in diameter hovering above you while you get scanned.
Hello,
It can safely be done under sedation. You will be very comfortable and breathing on your own, and you should not have any recollection or anxiety with proper sedation technique.
Options for CT scans include sedation and general anesthesia. Most scans are done without anesthesia. You would need to arrange this ahead of time. Often times, a rehearsal or observing the process is reassuring enough. Distraction with music is frequently helpful. Good luck!
New CT scanners are fast and not tight.
Generally there is no need to submit a patient to General Anesthesia for a CT scan. However you can talk to your physician to have a anesthesia personnel to prescribe an antianxiety medication before the procedure.
Ct scan is not a tight space no anesthesia is needed
