Family Practitioner Questions Asthma Nebulizers (Breathing Machine)

Is frequent nebulizaiton addictive in the long run?

My father is very prone to a cough and cold. Every time he has a bout of infection, he immediately asks us to give him nebulization as he finds it comforting. Could it be an addiction?

No but it could be psychological threat of not able to breath and he thinks to fix before it gets worse. You can check his finger mail oxygen levels and listen to his lungs when has attack. If oxygen is low or wheezing then yes he needs nebulizer.
There is a difference between addiction and dependency. An addiction a person will do ANYTHING to get the drug to acquire the brain stimulation.

No.
Some people suffer from exercise induced bronchospasm meaning when they are walking briskly or exercising the lungs constrict. Other people are triggered by coughs and colds. If he has wheezing and tightness in his chest an albuterol nebulizer is indicated. However I recommend him seeing a primary care doctor to better manage his asthma and symptoms.
No, nebulizers are not addictive. I suspect your father is requesting the medicine because it really is making him feel better, in the same way that many people would take Tylenol for a headache.
