Is taking Xanax bad before a flight?

Before I go on a flight, I always take a Xanax to relax my nerves and hopefully help me sleep. My mom thinks that I shouldn't do this, in case something happens on the flight. Do you think taking Xanax before a flight is a bad thing? It really helps me.

Some people that may experience social anxiety or phobia...it could definitely help and relieve the anxiety but please make sure you are under the care of a psychiatrist.
Xanax or alprazolam is a long-acting benzodiazepine. Depending upon the does it can cause drowsiness, confusion and disorientation. In case she needs to take something during the flight for relaxation or to sleep, I would recommend a short-acting benzodiazepine like zopiclone. Benzodiazepines can cause dependence if taken on a regular basis. Hence, one should avoid taking these medications regularly. Patient rather be used only on an as-needed basis.
