Sleep Medicine Specialist (Pediatric) Questions Nightmares

My daughter keeps having nightmares. What can we do?

My daughter is constantly having nightmares, and at times wakes up screaming at night. We know that this isn't normal, and we tried to talk to her about it but it's not working. What should we do?

You have to find a sleep medicine physician in your area and schedule a consultation. There are so many triggers and perpetuating factors for nightmares, so you need an expert opinion to sort it out.
There is not a simple answer here. Nightmares and night terrors can be developmental phenomena which are normal but there is obviously a spectrum including significantly abnormal events. I would discuss the matter with your pediatrician. Depression and anxiety can be associated with this behavior. If your daughter is old enough to consider it, drug and alcohol use can also play a role.
