Orthopaedic Surgeon Questions knee pain

My knee hurts a lot, what can I do?

I am an 18-year-old male. My knee hurts so bad, and I don't feel like I have injured it in any way. At least not recently. What can I do? Should I see a doctor?

yes
If you have significant pain, then it is worthwhile to have it evaluated. If it is impacting your daily activities, or you are dependent on pain relievers, then seeking medical attention is warranted.
Yes if the pain persists
This may help you, but you need to be examined carefully by an orthopedist. Most pain is secondary to very strong quads if the pain is in the sub patella. You need to work on hamstring muscles only, plus your diet, reduce your carbohydrate intake and replace them with good fats.
If there is no swelling, it is likely nothing bad. Try ice, Motrin, and Google exercises for “patellofemoral syndrome.“ If that does not work, an opinion from a physician would be the next step.

If you have tried rest, ice, and over-the-counter analgesics without success, I would recommend further evaluation. If you happen to be a high school athlete, you could start with the athletic trainer.
Good luck!
