Anesthesiologist Questions General Anesthesia

What are the possible side effects to anesthesia?

My wife is having surgery, and has never had anesthesia before. Are there any common side effects we should be looking out for?

Depends on the surgery and anesthesia type. The anesthesiologist and surgeon will go over these risks prior to the procedure
Typical side effects are nausea, vomiting, short-term memory effects (day of surgery), sore throat, risk for dental injury or small cut on a lip, etc. It is best to discuss specific questions as they will relate to the anesthetic technique used and the surgical procedure being done.
