Pediatrician Questions Weigh Training

My son wants to start weight training at 15 years. Is it safe?

My son is a growing teenager and is currently 15 years. He is already athletically built but wants to now get into weight training to join his school's wrestling team. Is it safe for boys to start weight training so early?

Watch about unsupervised training, vitamins, and supplements. These can be too much protein for his kidneys. Make sure no steroid use, as this can harm bp and decrease testicular size. Most schools have athletic trainers who recommend healthy diet and exercise.
Yes, it is safe at age 15 years. It is better to be guided by a trainer to do it properly.
No, at this age, bones are growing and too much of weight training can cause strain on growing bones.
I have a great article that resume my views about this issue. This may help you making a decision and educating you in the matter.

I hope this helps you.
We generally recommend no weight training until the completion or near completion of puberty which generally happens around 15-17ish. Before then, using body weight for exercise is best. If he is finishing puberty, it should be ok to start weight training. Start with very low weight and lots of reps.
