I have a surgery scheduled for next week to remove my wisdom teeth. I need to know how I can recover from the surgery without either causing more damage or delaying my progress?

Do not drink through a staw or swish water around in your mouth or smoke for the first 36 hours. Your biggest risk is for a dry socket
Follow the instructions your dentist gives you
Pay attention to your post-op instructions given to you by your dentist. Don't smoke, drink alcohol or carbonation for a minimum of 3 days. Take the meds you are prescribed (if any), and keep your heart rate down for 3 days post-op.

The best way to recover is to FOLLOW instructions as per your treating doctor.
1- No smoking 2- liquid diet only 3- Salt water rinses 4- No Spitting 5- Take your antibiotics as prescribed. 6- Apply cold compress as needed . etc. But most important, CALL your doctor immidiatly if you are having problems.
A soft diet and lots of rest for the first few days is essential. Also, it is imperative that you do not swish water, smoke, or disturb the clots at any time to avoid a dry socket. Make sure you use your medications as directed, especially the antibiotic. The younger you are, the quicker you will recover.
Take the proper homeopathic remedies before the procedure to reduce pain and swelling. Ice the area 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off for 24-48 hours. make certain all remnant of residual membranes have been removed.

Start taking NSAIDS a day or two before the procedure. The dentist or oral surgery will instruct you in post care depending on how the procedure goes. The most important thing is to get plenty of rest and drink plenty of fluids after the procedure.
Your dentist should give you ALL info.
You will have some pain and some bleeding. They are easily managed with gauze and Tylenol or other types of pain relief. If you need stronger pain relieved you can get stronger medications from your dentist. Using ice on your cheeks will help reduce the pain. once you've had your teeth removed there will be pain and you need to use medications supplied by your dentist and ice on the areas. The ice needs to be done almost always for the first two days.
