First of all, one of the side effects of Metoprolol is hair loss. It is possible that if you change that medication your hair may return. However, hair loss in women is common and 1 in 5 women will struggle with it. First, we need to make sure there is no medical cause for your hair loss. If none is seen then treatment options would depend on the amount of hair lost. We can do PRP treatment to increase density and decreased further hair loss. Finally, hair transplantation is an excellent option to restore the fullness and appearance of the hair.
Surgery is by no means the only, or even necessarily the best route to treating hair loss in women. Topical prescription medications and certain oral prescriptions medications can be helpful. You would be wise to seek a dermatology consultation to determine the precise cause(s) of your hair loss, so that appropriate therapy(ies) may be initiated. The earlier you seek therapy, the better, as, in general, the longer the problem is present, the less likely the person is to respond to treatment.

Sounds like a little more than just the stress of childbirth given the duration. You should ensure your iron, blood counts, Vitamin D, thyroid studies, and free testosterone (if you have signs of polycystic ovarian syndrome such as thick hairs where they aren’t supposed to be, deepening of voice, acne, irregular periods).

Surgery is an option if this is genetic hair loss but no surgeon would do the procedure until you’ve pretreated for many months with minoxidil (Rogaine). It’s also important to do the above workup and consider a biopsy if there’s any concern for an inflammatory hair loss that would need to be treated differently. Hair breakage and tension can also cause hair loss so be careful about heat, braiding, or chemical relaxers. It sounds like you should make an appointment with a board certified dermatologist for workup and treatment.
There are different options besides surgery in the form of PRP injections.
