Orthopedist Questions Toe Injuries and Disorders

What can I do for infected toenail?

I'm 32 years old, and I believe that my toenail is actually infected and it hasn't healed on its for like 2 weeks. What can I do for this?

Start warm soaks but you should see a podiatrist or an orthopedic foot specialist as soon as possible.
Soak it in salt water and get on antibiotics. If that doesn't work, you may have to have part of the toenail removed.

Hope it helps!!

If the toenail is infected (an infected "ingrown toenail"), it is called a paronychia. This usually has to be drained. It's a procedure that should be done by a medical professional, most commonly by a podiatrist. After it is drained, there's usually about a 7- to 10-day course of oral antibiotics.

Yes these can be uncomfortable. Generally warm soaks in clean/ soapy water, keep cuticle away from nail and nail bed. This means push skin away from nail. Clean cover with bandaid or gauze or use open toe shoe wig covering. Antibiotic may be needed. If infection persists nail removal is treatment. Good luck.
