Infectious Disease Specialist (Pediatric) Questions Staph infection

What should we do for my son's staph infection?

My son's 10 years old, and I think he may have a staph infection. He has a fever and a rash that's really blistery. But the area of the rash is small so we're not sure. What should we do?

Clean the area with povidine iodine and then apply bacitracin ointment on it. Hygiene is very important keep separate towels and wash the clothes separately.
Usually a small area would not cause fever. Make sure he does not have chickenpox which is highly contagious. You can put antibiotic ointment on the spot but if fever continues he needs to be checked.
