Why does my knee hurt when I walk?

For some reason, my knee has really been hurting me, mainly when I walk. Why could this be happening? Started about two weeks ago.

It can be the result of a number of issues - sprain, arthritis, degenerative changes, meniscus, etc. You would need to be evaluated by a doctor for a proper evaluation.

Something is probably inflamed. It could be a variety of things, but chondromalacia patella, or a tendonitis is the most common. If you are >50, then it could be mild arthritis. Try taking 3 Advil with each meal and ice the knee after walking. If no better after 2 weeks, see and orthopedic surgeon.

Hope it helps!

There are many reasons for this, including things like arthritis, meniscus tears, referred pain from your back or hip, intra-articular pathologies and more. It could also be simply that the muscles around the joint are weak. Best to see an orthopedic specialist to undergo a thorough history and physical. If you have any fever, weight loss, or severe pain, make sure you are seen immediately or go to the local emergency room to be evaluated.
