Study Evaluates 3D Mammography for Breast Cancer Screening

New research evaluates 3D mammograms

A new randomized clinical trial has now set out to compare screening effectiveness between 3D mammography and standard 2D technology. The Tomosynthesis Mammographic Imaging Screening Trial will be enrolling women who are already scheduled to receive routine screening mammographies. They hope to enroll over 165,000 participants in their analysis, and the information will help investigators learn how best to screen for breast cancer in the future.

The study is funded by the National Cancer Insitute (NCI), which is part of the government-funded National Institutes of Health. With the help of government support, the study was developed by cancer researchers from a scientific organization known as the ECOG ACRIN Cancer Research Group.
