Congratulations to These Ovarian Cancer Heroes!

Laurel Rice - Physician

Laurel Rice is the chair of the department of obstetrics and gynecology and professor in the division of gynecologic oncology at the University of Wisconsin – Madison School of Medicine and Public Health. She also serves as president of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO). Since taking on an active role in the field of gynecology, Rice has conducted numerous clinical trials involving cutting edge technology to help in the battle against ovarian cancer. She created a Clinical Trials Task Force as a platform for junior investigators, a campaign to heighten public awareness of clinical trials and to improve their availability, as well as a campaign to promote federal funding of clinical trials. In addition, she is striving to launch a patient-friendly online platform and a navigation service in order to facilitate clinical trial enrollment rates. “The breadth and depth of all of these efforts, driven by Dr. Rice, are already reversing the downward spiral of gynecologic cancer clinical trials. They offer great hope for future progress in the prevention, treatment and cure of ovarian cancer,” said Ellen Sullivan, SGO chief communications and advocacy officer.
