Three-week chemo treatment confirmed

Based on the results of a phase III ICON8 trial that will be presented this year at the European Society for Medical Oncology or ESMO Conference in Madrid, European women should continue with the standard 3-week cycles of chemotherapy treatment. This study was conducted after study JGOG3016 reported that Japanese women should undergo intense, weekly chemotherapy treatments in order to increase their chance of survival. To determine whether these results were generalizable to other populations or not, the ICON8 study reviewed about 1,500 patients undergoing chemotherapy. Some of the women studied were given the standard 3-week cycles of chemotherapy, while others were given one of two different intense 1-week cycles similar to the treatment that was discussed in the JGOG3016 study.
