I can’t tell you if this is tooth or gum related without xrays and an exam but normally gum infections don’t cause swelling that you can see outside of the mouth. Tooth infections tend to throb, like a heart beat. Especially at night. Gum infections are more constant in pain. It will come back. Be sure to see your dentist. READ MORE
Why do my teeth have deep grooves?
Genetics. Some of my patients have groovy teeth and some have flat teeth. The ones with flat teeth have way fewer cavities. READ MORE
How to diagnose a cracked tooth?
It sounds like a crack that has damaged the nerve. Cracked tooth pain is sharp. Very sharp and specific. Only when biting a certain way or on small hard foods. Constant pain is usually a sign a nerve is dying. May be hard for the dentist to find but I would go back and see if it is showing up yet. READ MORE
Straightening one tooth?
By definition, orthodontics is moving teeth, so, unfortunately, no. But you can get a retainer to hold it in place and prevent it from getting worse. READ MORE
Are zirconia implants better than titanium?
I have no experience with them. Can’t answer you with any great deal of authority but I do know they are not used nearly as much as the tried and true titanium implants. READ MORE
Regular dental cleaning?
No. If you floss everyday between cleanings you should have zero pain. If not, expect some soreness but we never need to numb for a regular cleaning. READ MORE
Teeth moving after retainers?
Retainers typically only retain but can be made to apply some pressure to the teeth. As far as Invisalign or regular braces, You might ask for a bar retainer next time. They hold well. Some teeth are very stubborn and want to move back. Good luck. READ MORE

When the bleeding stops but don’t use a straw and don’t spit. READ MORE
How many mm of gum recession is normal?
Technically zero but most people have some. At your age it’s a little early to have serious recession. If you see a lot of root exposed, ask your dentist. May need the attachment holding your lips to your gums snipped. READ MORE

How long do dental implants last?
Depends on many factors. Can last a lifetime but studies are showing that many can fail over time. How well you clean, how hard your bite is, how good your bone is and how well the dentist placed the implant are all important factors. READ MORE
Can you sleep with dentures?
It is recommended that you give your gums 8 hours of rest every 24 hours if you are a denture wearer. Having said that, if you occasionally 'fall asleep' in your dentures it will usually cause you no harm. Patients who sleep in their dentures nightly usually break the upper dentures down the midline over time and can cause damage to their tissue and underlying bones. READ MORE
Is it normal for a tooth to hurt after a filling?
It is common for a new filling to be sensitive to hot and cold for a few weeks, especially if you are young and have larger nerves. If the sensitivity is not getting better after a few weeks or if it is getting worse, see your dentist. READ MORE
Why do gums recede with age?
They don’t have to. Recession is mainly caused by 2 reasons: excessive brushing and excessive clenching. You should use a soft brush and if you suspect you are clenching too much, have your dentist make you a night guard. If you don’t do either of these bad habits, your gums may never recede. READ MORE
Would my dentures be considered a prosthesis?
Dentures are typically called a removable prosthesis. When dentures are supported by implants they can be called implant supported or implant retained prosthesis. READ MORE
Do wisdom tooth abscesses take a long time to heal?
Infection after an extraction can happen but is rare. A more common problem post extraction would be a dry socket. A dry socket is a very painful condition but will usually heal within a few weeks without treatment. With treatment, the pain will go away much quicker. READ MORE
