Understanding the Stem Cell Transplantation Process

Then, you'll receive your transfusion

Then, you will receive high doses of chemotherapy, and radiation therapy if necessary. This step typically takes 5 to 10 days, and is done at either a clinic or hospital. Many centers will require the patient to stay until the transplant has been completed, which is usually around three weeks. However, some allow patients to go in and out.

You will then have a "stem cell transfusion," which is where you have your stem cells reinjected via the transplant catheter. Each infusion is rather quick, typically not exceeding a half an hour.
