Can a CT scan show a kidney infection?

I am a 52 year old female. I want to know if a CT scan can show a kidney infection?

Yes. It also can sometimes show the reason for the infection like stone, or obstruction from other causes.
Yes the CT scan can show signs of infection of the kidneys.
Hi, Excellent question, The answer is yes. The CT scan can show stones, infection, blood or hydronephrosis (enlargement of the filtration system). However, an Ultrasound is less invasive and may show the infection. This can be done without IV contrast and no radiation. Hope this helps.

Hi,

CT scan with IV contrast can determine focal or diffuse nephritis (moderate to severe infection). In mild cases, it might not be detected. Clinical correlation is always good.
Usually, it does not show infection, but it can show abscesses in or around a kidney or in the abdomen, or a blocked ureter, which can be related to an infection.
