Can pneumonia cause pain in ribs?

I am a 35 year old male and I have pneumonia. Can pneumonia cause pain in ribs?

Since pneumonia is inflammation of lung tissue, it cannot cause pain in the ribs (bone) per se. However, pneumonia can cause pain in the chest/rib cage area. This pain is usually worsened with deep breaths or cough. Hence, we call it pleuritic chest pain.
