Cancer or BV?

Hello. I recently was diagnosed with Bacterial Vaginosis and was put on antibiotics but it didn’t help. I have pain in the right ovary at times. I have a foul smell and brownish blood-like discharge daily. Could I still have BV that was resistant to the antibiotics or am I looking at something more serious?

Hello,

Resistant BV strands are present, however I would make sure that you are up to date on your pap smears and get an US to look at your ovary if the pain is persistent, however cancer at your age is VERY unlikely.
Make sure your pap smear is up to date, and you may want to get tests for other types of infection. If you are having pain, I would suggest an ultrasound.
Hello. Since the antibiotics did not work, a culture would be indicated. If a culture was already done then a more extensive culture would be next to evaluate for other conditions. Also, a pelvic ultrasound would be good to get for the right sided pain.
For a complete evaluation, you need a pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound, and psp test.
If either result is not normal, you require further testing, including an endometrial biopsy, and or cervical biopsies. If these tests are normal, you do not have cancer or pre cancer. A repeat vaginal culture will determine the appropriate treatment to treat your symptoms.
