Is Cranberry juice really effective in treating a UTI?

I am a 28-year-old woman, and I have recently developed a urinary tract infection. Apart from the medications to treat the infection and its symptoms. The doctor has recommended regular consumption of cranberry juice. How does cranberry juice help in treating a UTI?

Cranberry is only effective in treating E. Coli UTIs as it prevents the bacteria from attaching to the bladder wall. If UTIs are not from e coli, probably won't help, but if E. Coli, I usually recommend cystex cranberry (amazon) 1 Tbsp per day.
