Do specs with glare protection really work?

I am a software engineer and I wear glasses. I have glasses with glare protection, but I am having frequent headaches. Do these glasses really work?

Headaches can have numerous causes. Stress, diet, poor sleep, allergies. Your prescription may be inadequate or inappropriate for your job demands. Antireflective coatings help alleviate glare, but they’re only as good as the quality and accuracy of the exam, lenses and fitting of your frame.
I hope this helps!
It's best to have a good quality Blue light filter along with some mild magnification to reduce Computer Vision Syndrome eye strain.
Frequent headaches could come from a number of factors. Anti-glare or anti-reflective coating helps lessen the amount of glare you're exposed to from computers, phones, etc. It's important to remember that not all glare protection coatings are created equal. The one you want to get is a coating with blue light protection. Blue light is the most harmful ray of light that your eyes can be exposed to. The really good lenses with the "blue light" protection have a slight yellow tint to them.

Another thing to keep in mind is that headaches can come from a number of sources. Typically when we're on electronic devices we blink almost 50% less of the time which can eventually cause headaches. Many engineers work all hours through the night and drink a lot of caffeine. Caffeine withdrawal can also cause headaches to happen. To answer your question if the glasses really work, the short answer is that they do for the majority of people, but for someone who is spending a lot of time on computers, you might want to consider getting something more than just glare protection for your glasses. Hope that helps.
Yes, anti-glare and blue blocking lenses work great! There is something wrong if you are getting headaches: either an eye problem or a lens problem. Go back and get it checked!!!
Yes, the glare protection really works. If your prescription has changed, though, that could be causing your headaches.
Yes, anti-reflective lenses really do work. Even more so with blue-blocking technology. That being said, there ARE different levels/grades of anti-reflective coatings in the market, and they are not all equal in quality and/or functionality. If you are having frequent headaches, I would make sure to see your local optometrist to ensure that you are in fact looking through the most appropriate prescription for your working distances. THEN, the optician comes into play to make sure you have the highest-performing glasses possible.

Good luck!

Yes, glare protection does work. However, if your prescription is not accurate for what you need this can pose a problem and lead to headaches. Also, if you are experiencing early signs of presbyopia (need for reading glasses) for tasks at near or within arms length, this can also lead to headaches.

Your headaches can be from many problems. It can be your age; if you are over 40 yrs and work on near tasks such as the computer, you will experience eye fatigue, headaches, tearing, light sensitivity and burning sensations. You will need a prescription for reading. If you are under the age of 40, then it could be an accommodative condition and you will need glasses.
If your doctor's prescription eyeglasses do not reduce the headaches, you can get a second opinion or have your primary doctor rule out head tumors. Anti-glare does help as long as they are clean and clear. The premium anti-glares are always recommended for this reason.

Thank you.
