Thank you for your question. Acid reflux is caused by acid or bile flowing into the esophagus and irritating the lining.

Some methods to stop acid reflux include: avoiding large meals or lying down right after a meal. Avoid eating a heavy meal and then lying on your back or bending at the waist. Don't snack near bedtime and stay at a healthy weight. You should avoid eating certain foods, such as citrus, tomatoes, coffee, soda, chocolate, mint, garlic, onions, or spicy or fatty foods.
Lots of diet changes can help with acid reflux. Avoiding or at least limiting your intake of caffeine, greasy foods, fried foods, fatty foods and acidic foods (like citrus) can help. Also, healthy lifestyle changes like getting at least 8-9 hours of good sleep, exercising daily and avoiding smoking can help with reflux. Of course, medications called proton pump inhibitors are also available to try and reduce symptoms.
Watch what you are eating and timing of ingestion.
Avoid overeating. Avoid eating and then lying down within 2 hours. Avoid caffeine, chocolate, peppermint. Use anti-acid pills like zantac, prilosec or nexium.
