How long does it take to recover from a dislocation?

I am a 38 year old male. I want to know how long does it take to recover from a dislocation?

I dislocated both my shoulders multiple times. The typical recovery can be weeks to months, depending on the severity of the injury. (ie, are there tears in the rotator cuff muscles? Did you injure the labrum (cartilage lip/socket) and how badly? Did you stretch or tear any ligaments? Do you require surgery?) Some dislocations will re-set themselves, while others will need help or even sedation to re-set. The most important factor is getting the right help/advisement and FOLLOWING the doctor's recommendations to the TEE!
It depends on the joint and the grade. The muscle damage take about 6 weeks to recover, then the remodel phase can take 6 months. The ligament damage can take up tp 24 months to fully recover. during that time, the joint is more likely to be re-injured.
With rehab and treatments, typical time frame is 6-8 weeks.
Everyone is different and recovers at different rates. Staying moving and strengthening your ligaments with band work around that joint should help you recover faster. Nothing strenuous, but staying active will help.

The dislocation itself is recovered from, quickly. However, the other tissues that are injured during a dislocation can take months to heal and ongoing physical therapy exercises should be utilized.
