There are several healing phases to rhinoplasty. The initial stage includes swelling and bruising and this heals quickly. After about 2 weeks you can go out and about with no one knowing you had anything done. After the first 2 weeks, however, the swelling continues to decrease at a slower pace. Typically, the final result is apparent at about the one-year mark.
You must protect your nose for one month if it has been broken. Swelling will take 6 months to a year to resolve. You will know when the tip is soft. Roger Friedman, MD
With primary rhinoplasty, one can expect swelling for up to one year or more. However, results will typically be apparent after a few months, though final results will be at approximately the one year mark. With secondary rhinoplasty, the swelling can be much longer in duration, up to two years or more.
You will likely notice a large change within the first 2-3 months after surgery but it may take up to 1 year for scars and edema to almost fully resolve.
