Gums should not hurt when glassing. If you are new to flossing, your gums will hurt for a couple of days.
Rinse many times a day with salt water and give it a couple days for the gum to heal
It depends if your gums are healthy or you have gum disease. If your gums are healthy, usually after a week of daily flossing does the trick. If you have gum disease, your gums may not stop hurting until the gum disease is treated by a dentist.
Gums should not hurt when flossing unless you have not been flossing on a regular basis. If you are consistent with flossing, the gums will heal and will not hurt.

The gums should stop hurting in a couple of days if you are not too rough
Flossing shouldn't hurt at all if you do it gently. Gum usually heals in 1-3 days. If discomfort or pain continues, please see your local dentist for a comprehensive exam.
Flossing can cut gum and it will take one week to be healed. Mean time, do not floss, do not suck gum hard, and brush gentle. If food impact between teeth, use very fine tooth pick and keep inter-dental area clean.
Continue to floss and it will cause the tissue to become healthier and over time flossing the gums will no longer hurt. If they continue to hurt you are flossing to hard, have a food stuck between the teeth pressing on the gums or have periodontal issue or something more, I would advise you seeing your dentist.
Proper method of flossing shouldn’t hurt/ pain gums
