How much salt is too much salt?

I am working to change my diet and try to lose weight. One thing I love is salty foods. How much salt is too much salt for me?

Keep salt as low as possible. Try low salt options and taste will adjust in a few weeks.
More than 2000 mg or more than 2 g of sodium per day is too much
Salty foods make you retain water, so while your body needs salt, it’s not good to overuse salt in foods. Using other spices can make the food very tasty without the salt.
Most Americans eat too much salt, because sodium is in pretty much every processed food product. Most people should limit their sodium intake to less than 3000 mg per day, and 2500 is better. For high blood pressure, and some heart disease, it is restricted even more. Good for you for wanting to get healthier...good luck!
The Dietary Guidelines recommend that the general population consume no more than 2,300 milligrams of sodium a day (about a teaspoon of table salt). People with hypertension should reduce that to 1,500 milligrams.
