How soon after extraction can I get an implant?

I had a tooth extraction 2 weeks ago. I want to get a dental implant. How soon after extraction can I get an implant?

Many times, you can have an implant placed at the time of the extraction. However, if there was pathology or infection that caused the need for extraction, then it is not advised. If the extraction site was grafted, then usually about 12 weeks. If it was not grafted and left alone to heal, it could take up to six months or more, then still likely need some bone grafting when the implant is placed. Your dentist should be able to advise you based on the site and the healing process.
Dear Reader,

Great question. How soon can you get an implant after a tooth extraction? If the socket in your jaw is intact, you could have an implant placed in as little as 8 weeks. If the socket was damaged (depending upon the extent), again it could be placed in 8 weeks, although additional procedures may be necessary. I suggest you speak to your dentist or the oral surgeon who removed your tooth to give you a timeline.

Hope this helps,

10-12 weeks…. In some cases, an implant can be placed immediately following an extraction at the same appointment.
