Neurologist Questions Muscular Dystrophy

I suspect I may have some type of dystrophy

Extreme aching, and pain attacks in legs and buttocks. It is getting more difficult to get up and walk, even to stand up for short periods. Also in the shoulders and arms. Right now I am seeing a doctor who referred me to a back specialist. But I am still in pain and discomfort and I fear it is only getting worse by the day. I honestly believe I won't be able to walk soon.

Due to the complexity of your symptoms, the differential diagnosis is broad. It depends if you are weak or weakness is due to pain. A good exam is very important to sort out your symptoms. At least make sure your CPK and thyroid function have been checked. This is a blood test. Typically, dystrophy patients are not presenting with a lot of pain and there tends to be a family history. This would not be a likely diagnosis. Make sure you have a good examination. Check to see if you are weak when you are not in pain if possible.
