My friend will have a lymph node biopsy. Is biopsy safe?

Keeping in mind that all procedures carry an element of risk, lymph node biopsies tend to carry less risk than others especially for superficial nodes.
All Surgeries have risks 2nd to the use of Anesthesia.
In medicine, there is always some level of risk. However, the question to ask is - does the benefit outweigh the risk?
If a lymph node has an abnormal size, or similar effect for an extended amount of time, for a medical professional to recommend a biopsy, then the benefit does indeed outweigh any risk.
Safety - biopsies are relatively small. It may cause temporary irritation, inflammation, or tenderness. There is a risk of infection because the biopsy will generally leave a puncture (open wound) or incision, but the clinicians will give instructions on how to keep the area clean.
Is a biopsy safe? It depends. Any medical procedure has some risks. A superficial lymph node biopsy close to the skin has a very low risk, but a lymph node deep in the body has higher risks associated with biopsy. Ask your doctor about the specific situation.
Biopsies are generally safe and well tolerated but can carry risks, as all procedures. Some common risks include excessive bleeding, infection, damage to nearby tissue and numbness around the biopsy site. Keep in mind, biopsies are often necessary to rule out serious conditions that may be treatable if detected early. The location of the biopsy is also an important consideration. Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of the procedure to fully understand and give yourself some peace of mind, knowing what to expect.
