Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon Questions Cleft Palate

Repairing a cleft palate

I am curious about how a cleft palate is repaired. Do you take bone or tissue from another area of the body?

Generally no there are several flap types. Google cleft palate repair and view the diagrams.
clefts are of different types, facial, lip of which there are two bilateral and unilateral, cleft palate, etc. Most clefts don't require harvest of bone or tissues from distant sites, clefts of the alveolar bone do require bone grafting, but to make it clear clefts are treated with a cleft team as there are many things to consider beyond the mechanics of the closure of the cleft.
