Severe recurring localized headaches?

For the past five years, every single day, I get stabbing headaches the make me stop what I'm doing. They happen up to 3 or 4 times a day. I sometimes lose sight, lose balance. Once I nearly passed out from the sudden sharp pain. They normally last less than a minute, but every once in a while they last for several minutes. It hits about three fingers up from the ear near the back of the temple on the right side of my head. There is no running eye or nose when it happens.

I know most ice pick headaches are harmless, but they're only supposed to last weeks not years. They've even woken me up from sleep with the pain. Feels like I got shot. I haven't been to a hospital since I was 12 so I do not really have a medical history.

These headaches are either focal migraine or vascular cluster headaches. These require preventative management.
