I have left Optum/CareMount. For any clinical concerns my partners Adam Semegran, MD, FACS, and Carl Calica, MD, FACS, are covering me. Nurse Laura Mendes, LPN, is also temporarily available to assist
Laparoscopy is associated with less pain, less surgical site infection, and shorter recovery time. The only time an open appendectomy is superior is when the procedure cannot safely be done laparoscopically, due to scar tissue, abnormal anatomy, bleeding, etc.
Laparoscopy.
Laparoscopic is usually better because there is less manipulation of the abdominal organs, a smaller scar, faster recovery, etc. But not every case can be done laparoscopically. The surgeon will decide which is best in your case.
Ideally, laparoscopy.
