Braces do not hurt.
If sweets cause pain you likely have a cavity. Please see your dentist for an exam to find the source of the pain.
You may need to see your dentist for a check up for underlying decay!
When teeth are moving to become straight along the dental arch the gum is loose, not snug tight and sweets liquids 'seeps' into the loosen gum along the roots and the dental nerve become stimulated causing painful sensation
It might be a sign of a potential cavity. I would suggest that you see your dentist
