Why does my infected tooth hurt more when I lay down?

I have an infected tooth and it hurts more when I lay down. What could be the cause?

When you lie down there is increased blood flow to you head. This increased blood flow increases the pressure in the area of your infected tooth. I would recommend to rest sitting up in a chair. See your dental provider. Get started on antibiotics as soon as possible. Put and ice pack on the outside of your face in that area. If, the ice aggravates the area, try warm moist compresses on the outside of the face. The increased blood flow to the area will help the body get it's own defenses to the area.
Possible increased pressure from blood flow to the head. Try sleeping propped up with an extra pillow. You should be seen by your dentist for evaluation.
