Dental Hygienist Questions Electric toothbrushes

Are soft or hard toothbrushes better?

I typically use hard brushes for my teeth, but my wife thinks that I should be using soft since, according to her, they're just better overall. Is this true? Why are soft brushes better than hard?

Medium-soft
This depends on your specific oral health care needs. Hard tooth brushes are good at removing calculus and stain. Soft tissues are better if you have thin tissue. I recommend medium to medium-soft tooth brushes for most patients. Hard and soft are for specific purposes. I would speak with your dental health care professional to see what they recommend specifically for your.

Hard brushes are great! BUT only to scrub your bathroom tiles!!! Your gums are very soft and sensitive. Use of a hard toothbrush will cause gum recession and may also cause excessive wear of your tooth structure. Soft brushes are the rule. The only exception is when you are recommended to use an extra-soft brush!
Soft always.
No question a soft toothbrush is much better. While you may feel you are getting your teeth cleaner with a hard brush you may actually do damage to your gums, in essence causing recession. A soft brush will actually get in between teeth better.
