Blood and pus from belly button?

Hi, I'm a 43 year old male. I had an abdominoplasty about 15 years ago. The problem is even after all this time I'm still getting fluid accumulations in the area a few times a year. And then my "new" belly button will leak blood and pus for a few days. It's not terribly painful, more uncomfortable. Disconcerting though. Is this a big deal?

You need a CT scan of abdomen and pelvis. This is a bad sign.
It can be potentially a problem. I will recommend you see a plastic surgeon for evaluation.
Hello,

Well, it's your bellybutton, so it sure is bothersome at least. The most likely explanation is that you have a foreign body granuloma in the base of your bellybutton related to the previous surgery. The only way to stop/end this situation is to have the granuloma removed. This is usually a simple office procedure done with a local anesthetic. The surgeon who did your procedure can do this, as can any general surgeon.
I would recommend evaluation by a surgeon during one of these "flares". It is possible that you are having a reaction to suture material or another foreign body that was placed at the time of your initial surgery.
